The Catholic "Bible" admits that Rome = Babylon!!

The New American Bible is an official English Catholic Bible with the Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat of the Catholic Church, signifying that it is "free" from doctrinal error according to the Church of Rome.   The edition used here is the "St. Paul Editions," Copyright 1976 by the Daughters of St. Paul, Boston, MA.   Below I have quoted the KJV, but bracked in the NAB reading when needed for comparison.

Revelation 17:1-9
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy [NAB "blasphemous names"], having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a [NAB "symbolic"] name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains [NAB "seven hills"], on which the woman sitteth.

Revelation 18: 3, 24 3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication [NAB: "lewdness"], and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

Now here are the NAB's footnotes for these passages:

17, 1-6:   Babylon, a symbolic name (v 5) of Rome, is graphically described as the great harlot.
17, 3:   Blasphemous names: divine titles assumed by the Roman emperors...[or Roman pontiffs]
17, 9:   Seven hills: of Rome
18, 3. 24:   Rome is condemned for her lewdness, symbol of idolatry ... and for persecuting the church; cf Rv 19, 2.

So Bablyon is a symbolic name for Rome and Rome is the great harlot.  

Blasphemous names:   here are some of the pope's divine titles:

Holy Father	John 17:11 is the only place in the Bible where "Holy Father" is found, and it is used in by Christ when praying to God the Father.   "Holy Father" is a title of God the Father: And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
Supreme Pontiff	“Supreme Pontiff”   is the title of a high priest.   But the Bible says that Jesus is our high priest: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. ”   (Heb 4:14).
Vicar of Christ	A vicar is a substitute or representive of someone.   Jesus told us that the Holy Ghost would be His representative here on earth, to guide us in His word, and convict us of sin.

The pope has plenty of blasphemous names.   His names blaspheme every member of the Holy Trinity!!!   But what about “her lewdness”?   Catholic priests have been perverts for centuries; it is just recently that it has made the news.   “Forbidding to marry” is a “doctrine of devils” (I Tim 4:1-3), and “celebacy” of the priesthood has produced many devils.   Why does I Tim 3:2 say that a bishop must be “the husband of ONE wife”?   “Symbol of idolatry”   If you want to see idols, go to the Vatican, they have plenty.   And yes, they do honor and pray to them.   Last December (2003), the pope prayed to a statue of Mary, asking for world peace.   “I come to venerate [worship] you, O Mary” is what he said.   “and for persecuting the church”   People have seem to forgotten what the Inquisition was like.   This website gives many graphic accounts of the Catholic Inquisition.  

If this is really true, why would they admit it?   The NAB goes on to claim that the fall of the Roman empire fulfilled the rest of this prophecy.   They say that the events of Rev 17 & 18 have alreay occurred in the past.   It goes on to claim that Roman emperor Nero was the beast of Rev 17:8.

Catholic reader, the Lord's command to you is simple: leave the Catholic religion and get washed in the Blood of the Lamb!   Faith in Jesus Christ is the ONLY WAY to salvation; no amount of praying rosaries or wearing scapulars will help you.
