Why I Stopped Watching TV | The Bible and the Television | "Red Green Show" admits that it is not for Christians.
The Bible and the Television
The Ten Commandments
I am the Lord thy God... Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou
shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that
is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor thy father and thy mother.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness.
Thou shalt not covet.
The question is not which of these commandment are broken on TV, it's which aren't.
The following is a good synopsis of what you can see on television:
Romans Chapter 1
29 Being filled with all
unrighteousness,
fornication,
wickedness,
covetousness,
maliciousness;
full of envy,
murder,
debate,
deceit,
malignity;
whisperers (gossiper? See Prov 16:28),
30 Backbiters,
haters of God,
despiteful,
proud,
boasters,
inventors of evil things,
disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding,
covenantbreakers,
without natural affection,
implacable,
unmerciful:
But
wait, you say. I would never do those wicked things I see on
TV!!! Then why do you watch them? Do you find pleasure in the
fornications, adulteries, and murders of others? If you do then the
next few verses are for you ;
Romans 1:32. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things [see above] are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
II Thess. 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteusness.
Do you find pleasure in the unrighteousness of others?
Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Do you love to watch violent, bloody movies?
Psalm 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
I Thess 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
What
would you do if an unbeliever saw what you watched on TV? Would they
would wonder why you were watching the same things that they watch. They
would think that you are a hypocrite for believing one thing, then watching
TV shows that directly contradict your beliefs. How do you think this
would affect your witness to them? Or, on the contrary, they might think
that since you, a Christian, watch it, it must be okay. If you
were able to convert this person, they would probably remain a babe in Christ,
and never grow in the faith.
You should live your beliefs, not just talk them.
